THE BIG EASY
Sit down, hon', and strap your seatbelt on: Big Moves Boston is comin'
in fast and low with its new spring dance and performance revue, The
Big Easy. Big Moves' big-boned babes tip their hats and flip some
fringe to a certain time and place--'20s through '40s, New Orleans, and
most of all, JAZZ. The Big Easy is a feast for eyes, ears, and toes,
and Amazonian emcee Alicia Greene knows how to dish it out, starting
off with a smoky set from our hip hop queens, the Phat Fly Girls.
Filling the Stage is back with two sizzling new Broadway jazz numbers,
one straight-up and the other rewritten to be as fat as you can handle.
Caravan of Curves samples from jazz for bellydance that really works
those skirts, and Thick (Big Moves' new burlesque company) just fans
the flames. Maine dance artist Robyn LaMarre is in town to ladle out
some fresh new lyrical works. And it wouldn't be a Big Moves revue
without our resident poet Jaclyn Friedman, who will melt your ears to
your heart to your second chakra (and this, folks, is a Very Good
Thing).

Dance is a joyful form of self-expression that is everyone's
birthright. But dance doesn't have to be standing to be satisfying!
This workshop series allows you to explore different styles of creative
movement without having to leave your chair, offering a exciting,
supportive alternative to higher-impact dance classes. Hip hop, salsa,
jazz, bellydance, lyrical jazz, even ballet... these dance forms can be
yours, whatever your size or ability. With specially designed warm-ups,
strengthening routines, and stretching sessions, these workshops will
increase strength and flexibility, enhance your muscle coordination,
and support you in discovering or rediscovering your own grace and
expressiveness.

As
a genre, jazz dance includes almost anything, from smooth lyrical
sweeps to sultry salsa-inspired steps to the high kicks and brash hips
that permeate Broadway dance musicals. This beginning class will
introduce you to the basics--steps, kicks, turns--and give you the
confidence to keep exploring jazz dance. We will build a new routine
each month, so join us for the whole month to get a real sense of
accomplishment. Bring comfortable shoes (sneakers or jazz shoes) and
lots of water, and be ready to MOVE!
