It all started here, in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a one-day dance clinic at a gym in Redwood City. Since that time, Big Moves has grown to be a multi-city and multi-national operation, and Big Moves Bay Area remains a stronghold of size-positive and size-diverse dance classes, companies and productions.

Over the years, Big Moves Bay Area has hosted classes and dance clinics in everything from contact improv to aerial dance, from to burlesque to lyrical jazz. We produced and were home to the six-season professional modern dance concert "Bodies in Motion" which showcased our own Mass Movement as well as renowned guest artists such as Alexandra Beller. In 2002 Big Moves Bay Area co-produced with the late Heather MacAllister the first San Francisco productions of the Fat-Bottom Revue. In 2007, our very own Phat Fly Girls were featured on "Entertainment Tonight" and in a national PBS documentary. Our dancers have performed all over the West coast from Portland, OR to San Diego, CA, from the historic Great American Music Hall to Stanford University. Over the years we have conducted a number of choreography commission programs where local professional choreographers have created new and innovative works specifically for our dancers; these dances have been performed at our productions and at dance festivals all around the bay.

Big Moves Bay Area is currently home to the Phat Fly Girl-West Coast, a mixed-genre contemporary dance company specializing in hip hop, musical theater and lyrical jazz. We offer open rehearsals with the Phat Fly Girls on a regular basis as well as periodic workshops and dance clinics in a variety of dance styles -- all open to the public. Big Moves Bay Area is committed to getting as many people of all sizes dancing in the studio and up on stage!
